The Maternal League of Memphis is a benevolent and charitable organization established in 1935 by Mrs. George Harsh to assist in meeting the needs of mothers and their newborn infants. We continue to fulfill this mission in a multitude of ways. Rebecca Harsh founded the first free prenatal clinic in South Memphis in September of 1937.

Selected as Tennessee 's Model Program in 1990, 91, and 92
Received the National Association of Public Hospitals Volunteer Award and the H.A.V.E. Award from the American Hospital Association for Volunteer Excellence in 1991
Hospital served currently – LeBonheur Children's Medical Center
Sponsored the annual Teen Parenting Workshop held by the LeBonheur Center for Children and Parents (provided funding for participants transportation and volunteers for the event)
Provide volunteers at the Hope House golf Tournament, as well as, financial support
Our signature Layette Program, unique to the Memphis area, has been serving needy families for decades; 500 layettes distributed through the Shelby County, TN Health Department
Provide Safe Sleep education to infant caregivers throughout the county.
Provide tee shirts to every baby born in Shelby County, TN with “This Side Up” emblazoned across the front as a reminder to put your baby to sleep on his or her back;. our version of the national “Back To Sleep” campaign
We have fundraisers throughout the year to fund these projects. Our main fundraiser is a Gala Dinner which is held in the fall a seated gourmet dinner held at an area restaurant for couples
In the spring, we have our annual Mother's Day Layette Letter Fund Drive. We send letters requesting donations of $25 per “layette” to be sent “In Honor of” or “In Memory of” a special family member or friend.
Because Maternal League is a 501c3 charitable organization, all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the tax laws.
